Fox News has reported that Rep. Keith Ellison, the Minnesota
Democrat who sparked controversy by taking his oath on the Koran this
past January is stirring up controversy again. While speaking to a
group of atheists, the Muslim Congressman made remarks comparing the
9/11 terrorist attacks to the Reichstags fire of 1933 that paved the
way for Adolph Hitler to seize dictatorial power in Germany. According
to an article in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the Congressman said the
following, "It's almost like the Reichstag fire, kind of reminds me of
that. After the Reichstag was burned, they blamed the Communists for it
and it put the leader of that country [Hitler] in a position where he
could basically have authority to do whatever he wanted. The fact is
that I'm not saying [Sept. 11] was a [U.S.] plan, or anything like that
because, you know, that's how they put you in the nut-ball box --
dismiss you." No Congressman, you are right, you are not saying that
September 11 was a government plot, you are just IMPLYING it.
Ellison then said the following in a statement, "Obviously,
Usama bin Laden and the hijackers who carried out the murderous events
are responsible for 9/11. The question is, however, how do we respond
to this tragedy? With fear and rage? Or with courage and reason? I'm
for courage and reason." Ellison then added, "This means
that in the aftermath of 9/11, instead of invading Iraq, President Bush
should have responded militarily where necessary, but even more so,
diplomatically, and with all of our intelligence resources." Mr.
Ellison, where have you been the last six years, we did not go into
Iraq until 2003, almost two years after 9/11. We did respond militarily
where necessary, or did you forget Afghanistan?
Keith Ellison is just the latest example of Democrats using
irresponsible rhetoric to suit their political agenda. They are more
concerned with their party than their own country. Mr. Ellison, do the
nation a favor, apologize to President Bush, apologize to all
Americans, apologize to your constituents, then get out of the United
States Congress until you learn to be more responsible with your words.
Republicans have lost their positions for far less, which just
highlights the hypocrisy of the Democratic Party.
