California Congressman Goes Off Deep End

Rep. Peter Stark (D-CA) has officially sunk to a new low. The California Democrat actually said the following on the House floor:

“You don’t have money to fund the war or children. But you’re going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president’s amusement.”

Yes, you read (and heard) correctly. Pete Stark accused Republicans of sending troops to Iraq to get killed “for the president’s amusement.” This is the height of irresponsibility from Democrats. What message does this send to our troops and their families?

According to Fox News, the White House is staying away, choosing not to dignify this with a response. Rep. Charles Rangel, Democrat from New York, mentioned the possibility of a rebuke for Stark. I do not feel that this is enough, but with the Pelosi House, I will be surprised if Stark even gets a rebuke. Speech as vile as this should warrant a censure at least. According to Stark’s website, a press release states that he apologized, but no news source appears to have corroborated this. The press release said the following:

“I have nothing but respect for our brave men and women in uniform and wish them the very best,” said Stark. “But I respect neither the Commander-in-Chief who keeps them in harms way nor the chickenhawks in Congress who vote to deny children health care.”

It must be noted that this is not the first time Stark has gone off the deep end and insulted our troops. According to Breitbart TV, in May of 2004 stark berated Staff Sgt. Daniel Dowd, a member of the California National Guard, VFW life member, and American Legion member, after Dowd faxed Stark complaining about Stark’s vote over prisoner abuse. Stark questioned Dowd’s intelligence and personally insulted him over the answering machine.

Peter Stark, I ask that you rectify this situation by doing the following: 1. Retract your remarks; 2. Apologize on the floor of the House to the President, House members, Senators, and the American people; 3. Issue a written apology to the families of each and every service member killed, wounded, or serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, begging for their forgiveness; and 4. Resign your seat, as you lack the responsibility or intellect to serve as a member of Congress. Your remarks are shameful, hateful, show clear lack of judgment, and border on treason as defined by the Constitution.

I encourage all persons living in Stark’s district to contact his office and express your outrage (contact details below) over his remarks. To all Americans who have lost loved ones in this war and were offended by Stark’s comments, rest assured you have my support and thanks, as well as those of most other Americans. Take comfort that people like Stark are in the small minority and that most of us support you and your loved ones who sacrificed so much for our nation. To those currently serving, thank you for your service and do not let Stark deter you from your mission, as you are better people than he is.
